Why should I service my transmission while it is working properly? Today’s automatic transmissions can contain over 3,000 parts.  It could cost from $700 to over $5000 to rebuild or replace that transmission. You can’t afford not to service your transmission at least once per year. The transmission fluid is the lifeblood of your transmission. It has the job of lubricating, cooling, providing control pressure, and multiplying engine torque. Time after time we see well-maintained transmissions last well over 150,000 miles. We also see those same transmissions fail in less than 70,000 miles because of no maintenance.

A transmission service should include replacing the internal filter, changing the fluid, Cleaning the pan and internal particle magnets, replacing the pan gasket, and test driving the vehicle. A transmission fluid flush is also recommended at this time to remove all of the old fluid and the contaminants it contains.  It should be noted that a few popular transmissions cannot have the internal filter (screen) replaced during a transmission service. This is because the transmission must be disassembled for replacement. All the more reason to have the fluid flushed regularly so that filter (screen) and the rest of the transmission stay clean and well lubricated.

Transmission fluid that is left in the transmission too long will cause varnish and sticky valves, clogged filters, increased internal wear, and transmission failure. It is our recommendation that the transmission be serviced every 20,000 to 30,000 miles for the average driver. You should change it at 12,000 to 15,000-mile intervals if your vehicle is used for towing, plowing, or hauling heavy loads. Remember, you can pay a little now or a lot later.

In the event that your transmission does fail, we can install a quality replacement unit backed by a nationwide parts and labor warranty for 3 years or 75,000 miles.   Jasper Engines and Transmissions supplies us with remanufactured transmissions that have beed upgraded from original specification to withstand the test of time.
